AMS opened the Mountain Shop in Talkeetna originally to support its programs, but it is also filling a need in Talkeetna to have a gear shop. Having adequate or better gear is paramount to success on remote, self-sufficient expeditions. AMS needs it and so does everyone else going into the backcountry from Talkeetna. You could show up in sandals and leave for Denali set up nicely, including group gear like tent, stove, sled, and shovel. The Mountain Shop keeps its prices the same as everyone else and offers discounts to AMS participants, the military, and local area residents.
