Welcome
Alaska Mountaineering School is located in Talkeetna, Alaska next
to Denali National Park & Preserve. AMS teaches instructional courses and leads guided climbs throughout the Alaska Range,
Talkeetna Mountains, and Chugach Mountains. We are an organization whose members take great care to role model the best in wilderness travel and
mountaineering disciplines.
At AMS, we take a hands on approach which builds a solid foundation for a lifetime of enjoyment in the back country.
On our climbs, you are treated as an expedition member and asked to be involved in all aspects of the trip. No company can match AMS' success rate on Denali. AMS' approach reflects a greater understanding
of the objectives at hand and how to reach the summit in a safe
and responsible manner. No one is more familiar with the highest standards
for safe and responsible back country travel and climbing in Alaska.
Our core curriculum emphasizes safety, leadership, team work, climbing
skills, Leave No Trace, and enjoyment of the sport. AMS' class progression and curriculum
give graduates the confidence and knowledge base to repeat what
they've learned on their own.
We encourage you to research
the reputation of the Alaska Mountaineering School on the internet or by
contacting the Talkeenta NPS ranger station (907-733-2231). We are proud
of our long standing history for being Alaska's foremost climbing school
and guiding
company. Please contact the AMS office for more information
or answers to your questions. Caitlin

Note: Mountaineering is inherently dangerous.
We cannot eliminate the possibility of an accident happening.
That said, AMS takes risk management very seriously. During
any course or expedition, risk and exposure to hazards are
discussed by AMS staff, monitored and minimized. AMS programs
are insured, carry all necessary permits and leave for the
mountains with medical and drug kits, radios, and emergency
procedures for all areas of operation. All AMS instructors
are certified in Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT
medical training and have standing orders written by our
world renowned medical director, Dr. Peter Hackett and training
supervisor, Lance Taysom RN.
