On the starting day of the wilderness hike, students and instructors will meet at 9:00 a.m. at AMS. This is a busy day, so please be on time and take care of all personal business before hand. If you are driving to Talkeetna, you may leave your car at AMS. Instructors will do a check of each student's gear and issue you any items you may need to ensure you are properly outfitted.
Any rentals which are issued will be done on the first day as we are busy briefing and packing group gear and food prior to this day. After instructors check your equipment and issue any rental items you will need, they will provide a course orientation.
At 12 p.m., lunch is provided at AMS. After lunch, we change into our hiking clothes, store any personal gear at AMS, load the van, and drive to Alaska Bush Flight Service at Fish Lake, just south of Talkeetna. After loading the floatplane with our gear, we fly 30 minutes to a high alpine lake. Here we unload and set up camp, go for a hike, teach classes, and prepare a hearty dinner.
