AMS mountaineering courses provide the knowledge, skills, and experience base for responsible and enjoyable climbing in a glaciated mountain environment.
Mountaineering courses are self-reliant expeditions and travel in remote, glaciated wilderness areas where there are no trails. Our teaching style emphasizes hands-on learning and applying newly learned skills to real objectives. The class structure we provide includes formal lectures, interactive classes, one-on-one, and group discussions. The mountains serve as our classroom and provide a dynamic learning environment.
All mountaineering courses emphasize winter camping, glacier travel, and avalanche awareness, prerequisites for any Alaska mountaineering expedition. Each day is packed with activities, and our carefully planned climbing progression graduates participants with a high level of confidence. We want you to learn from experience and have the confidence and self-awareness to lead your own expeditions.
